Certificate in Complementary and Alternative Therapies

Description

A new Level 2 course.

The main aim of the course is to enable candidates to provide treatments for the purposes of relaxation and the relief of stress in order to encourage general health and wellbeing at level 2 under supervision.

Candidates will study the theory, history and concept of Complementary Therapy treatments as well as anatomy and physiology of arm and hand, lower leg and foot, and how to implement basic therapy treatments. The underpinning knowledge and skills Level 2 treatments under supervision are also required.

Once candidates have achieved the ITEC Level 2 Certificate in Complementary and Alternative Therapies they may progress on to other ITEC or equivalent awards at level 3 (Practitioner level).

The main aim of the ITEC Level 2 Certificate in Complementary and Alternative Therapies is to enable candidates to provide treatments for the purposes of relaxation and the relief of stress in order to encourage general health and wellbeing at Level 2 under supervision.


It also aims:
• to provide skills at Level 2 in the National Qualification Framework for those interested in the Complementary and Alternative Therapy industry
• to provide opportunities for staff in the Complementary and Alternative Therapy industry to gain a Level 2 qualification
• to provide a stepping stone for candidates leading into a Level 3 qualification at Practitioner level in the Complementary and Alternative Therapy industry
• to sustain the interest of candidates wanting to work in the Complementary and Alternative Therapy industry
• to encourage knowledge and understanding for the Complementary and Alternative Therapy industry at Level 2
• to provide opportunities for candidates to focus on the development of the major Key Skills and the wider Key Skills in a Therapy context such as communicating with clients, working with others and problem solving
• to provide opportunities for candidates to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in employment as a Complementary and Alternative Therapist
Candidates will study the theory, history and concept of Complementary and Alternative Therapy treatments as well as anatomy and physiology of the head, neck, shoulders, lower arm and hand, lower leg and foot, and how to implement basic complementary and alternative therapy treatments. The underpinning knowledge and skills required to successfully perform Level 2 treatments under supervision are also required.
